Durango is steeped in both historical and outdoor attractions, resulting in a reputation for being a favored Colorado travel destination. The annual Music in the Mountains Festival runs for three weeks every summer and welcomes classical musicians from around the globe to perform in a unique mountain setting. Durango is popular in the winter with skiers and snowboarders seeking the fabled Colorado powder. The Durango Mountain Resort also features mountain bike events on the ski trails after the snow has melted. Several natural hot springs are also located in the area, including the Trimble Hot Springs, featuring an Olympic pool and full spa services. Bird watching and other wildlife viewing is popular in this part of Colorado as well, with the mountains eliciting a wealth of species. Durango's Grand Motorcar & Piano Collection showcases a number of antique automobiles and pianos.
Tourist Attractions

The Animas Musuem, operated by the La Plata County Historical Society, chronicles Durango's past through documents, artifacts and rotating exhibits.
